M1 three vehicle crash: four teens charged, man transported to hospital after Coomera accident

Four teens have been charged after being chased down by police following a wild M1 crash on the Gold Coast involving an allegedly stolen BMW that saw another car flipped onto its side.

Four teenagers have been charged by police after a terrifying M1 crash involving an allegedly stolen BMW that saw another vehicle end up on its side in the middle of the motorway.

Emergency services were called to the Pacific Motorway at around 9.45pm on Saturday night Coomera after the black BMW X6 had crashed into a blue Toyota RAV 4 and silver Toyota HiLux in the northbound lanes around 9.45pm on Saturday night.

An 83-year-old Southport man, who was the driver of the RAV 4 – the vehicle that flipped on its side – sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Police allege the BMW was stolen from a Mermaid Water residence on Friday, May 23 and left the scene of the highway crash without stopping.

Police with the assistance of the Polair helicopter tracked the BMW and the offenders to a Highland Park address, where they dumped the BMW X6 and entered a black BMW X5.

Officers continued to track the BMW X5 to Theatre Street, Oxenford, where all four offenders then fled on foot into surrounding streets and parkland.

Police located a 14-year-old Coomera boy and 14-year-old Elanora boy on Hollywood Place a short time later and took them into custody.

A 14-year-old Varsity Lakes boy and 16-year-old Biggera Waters girl were found nearby on Village Way and were also taken into custody.

The 14-year-old Coomera boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle – use in the night in company and another, unrelated offence.

The 14-year-old Elanora boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle - use, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence - never held licence, enter premises and commit indictable offence and other offences.

The 14-year-old Varsity Lakes boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle - use in the night in company, possessing dangerous drugs and other offences

All three boys are scheduled to appear in the Southport Children’s Court on Monday.

The 16-year-old Biggera Waters girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle - use in the night in company, and is due to appear in Beenleigh Children’s Court, also on Monday.

All four teenagers were refused police bail. Police investigations are ongoing.
