A tradie has been warned he is a “hair’s breadth away from prison” if he is tempted to get behind the wheel again.

Joshua Caleb Mason, 28, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court via videolink on Monday seeking bail on six charges of disqualified driving.

The court was told Mason - who has a six-page criminal history - had other charges before the Southport District Court.

These included three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of stealing, which he intended to plead guilty to in a sentence hearing in June, the court heard.

Magistrate Louisa Pink accepted submissions from Mason’s lawyer that the 28-year-old had shown evidence of rehabilitation, since the bulk of the offending was committed in 2019.

“You should now know that you are a hair’s breadth away from prison if you are tempted to get back into a vehicle while your licence is disqualified,” Magistrate Pink said.

Bail was granted with strict conditions and Mason has his car impounded.
