A court has heard a 17-year-old could be in a “world of strife,” after he and two others were charged in relation to an alleged armed robbery on the Gold Coast on Christmas Eve.
Police allege the three men, a 17-year-old, 36-year-old, and 37-year-old, were involved in the robbery of an Arundel property in the early hours of December 24.
All three were charged with three counts each of armed robbery, one count of enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence while armed, and two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The men allegedly drove to the Arundel address in a stolen BMW and allegedly entered the residence armed with a firearm, machete and a hammer at about 4.45am.
Police further allege the men took an Audi SUV from the property when they left.
It took until 11am on Christmas Eve for specialist police to locate and arrest the men at a Worley Drive address in Gilston.
During the almost six-hour-long manhunt, Gilston residents were warned by police to remain indoors and “to ring triple-0 and report any fresh sightings”.
“There is absolutely no doubt that my client is in a world of strife if the police can prove what they say is a strong case,” the 17-year-old’s lawyer Ashkan Tai told the court at his client’s first mention on Boxing Day.
“What the facts do allege is that my client was certainly in possession of that stolen Audi … a short time after the alleged home invasion.”
The 17-year-old did not apply for bail in the Southport Magistrates Court on December 26, though he is expected to at his next mention on January 8.
The teenager is co-accused with John George Tumbers and Steven Phillip Tumbers, aged 36 and 37-years-old respectively.
The Tumbers also did not apply for bail during their videolink appearance and their matters were set down for next mention on January 21.
They will remain on remand until that date.
