A sexed-up tourist from the Gold Coast has taken a drunken joy ride through Mildura’s Langtree Mall asking for directions to the nearest brothel before being arrested at a karaoke bar.

A Gold Coast man drunkenly drove a Range Rover down Mildura’s Langtree Mall while asking passers-by where he could find the nearest brothel.

James Mahoney, 26, appeared via video link to plead guilty to several charges related to a wild summer night in Mildura.

The court heard that on January 4, Mahoney drove a white Range Rover through Langtree Mall, stopping outside Joy City karaoke bar to ask a security guard where the nearest brothel was.

After that exchange, he continued driving illegally through the pedestrian mall before parking outside Subway on Langtree Ave and returning to the bar to continue partying.

Police located Mahoney at Joy City, but he refused to take an evidentiary breath test, telling officers he knew nothing about a Range Rover and wasn’t driving.

When pressed by officers, Mahoney attempted to provide a fake name before being arrested and charged.

The court heard Mahoney was in Mildura over the summer after the end of a seven-year relationship to be with family.

Mahoney’s lawyer, Ivan Sayad, said his client had taken his offending seriously, highlighting the fact he had voluntarily checked himself into an inpatient facility to help him address the issues that caused the offending.

Magistrate Patrick Southey commended Mahoney for that, before adding the incident could have been much worse.

“He has clearly taken this seriously, that’s all to his credit. It was a worrying incident that could have ended disastrously, but it didn’t,” Mr Southey said.

“Keep working on yourself Mr Mahoney.”

Mahoney was fined $800 plus costs and had his licence suspended for four years.
