A man with a history of robbery, break-ins and car thefts who bragged about his antics on social media has accused police of a conspiracy against him during his latest court appearance.

Harley Robert Earl is serving 12-month jail sentence after pleading guilty in December last year to a string of offences.

The 22-year-old was due to be released from Woodford Correctional Centre in February after he was granted parole.

However, his bid for freedom was dashed at the eleventh hour when detectives charged him

in relation to a break-and-enter at a Mermaid Waters home in September 2022. The court was told keys to the property and a car were stolen. CCTV and a DNA sample taken from fingerprints left behind at the scene eventually led investigators to Earl.

Appearing via video link in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday a frustrated Earl accused Police of a plot to try and keep him locked up.

“I was meant to be going home. They (police) find out I’m getting out and all of a sudden they come and charge me for another charge, a year later after I’m already serving a sentence,” Earl told the court.

“It’s the same crime spree. They should have come and charged me a year ago.”

Police have used the 22-year-old’s social media in the past to convict him of offences.

The Eagleby man has a lengthy and serious criminal history, in 2020 he plead guilty to a six-month rampage which included a smash and grab at a jewellery store.

While on parole for similar offences, Earl was involved in break and enters at multiple homes, stealing and driving in several vehicles and attempted fraud across the Brisbane and Gold Coast region.

He would post some of his criminal acts to social media, featuring photo’s of knives, cash and cars with fake plates. This brazen bragging was his undoing as police found social media imagery of Earl wearing the exact clothes and face covering used during the jewellery store robbery and other offences.

Earl pleaded guilty to his latest charge of enter dwelling and commit and told the court he was looking forward to getting out jail and moving in with his “nanna” for a “fresh start”.

He was convicted with no further time added to his sentence. He is now due to be released in December.
