Gold Coast teacher Darren Philp committed to trial on charge of indecently treating a child

The mother of a child allegedly abused by a Gold Coast teacher has claimed in court her daughter went through “through hell”.

The mother of a child allegedly abused by a Gold Coast teacher has told a court her daughter has gone “through hell”.

Darren Alan Philp is charged with indecently treating a child on an unknown date between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. He was working at Pimpama State Primary College before being suspended.

His alleged victim’s mother was among the witnesses cross-examined during Mr Philp’s committal proceedings in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The mother claimed during her evidence that her daughter “went through hell”.

Mr Philp’s case was ultimately committed for trial in Southport District Court. A next court date has not yet been set.

The 51-year-old remains on bail under strict conditions, including that he have no unsupervised contact with a child under 16 and must not attend any educational facility without prior approval.

His teaching registration was suspended by the Queensland College of Teachers in January last year after the charge was laid.

Speaking as he left the courthouse after his proceedings, Mr Philp said he “looked forward to his day in court”.
