Men with alleged bikie links accused of home invasion

October 20:Two men with alleged bikie links have been accused of robbing a woman in a violent home invasion on the Gold Coast.

Police allege four men went to a property at Lilli Pilli Dr, Southport, in a black SUV and forced entry by breaking the front door just before 7.30pm Friday, October 15.

“The men were allegedly armed with what appeared to be firearms and threatened the 24-year-old female occupant, before stealing a jewellery box containing a quantity of jewellery and mobile phone, then leaving in the vehicle,” police said in a statement.

An 18-year-old man, an alleged associate of the Comanchero bikie club, was arrested on Tuesday at a Springwood property.

A 19-year-old alleged Finks bikie member was arrested at a Crestmead business later that day.

Josiah Lea, 18, and Nivatial Talalelei Faafua, 19, have been charged with enter dwelling with intent and armed robbery.

Lea was not present during a brief mention at Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday and did not apply for bail. The matter was adjourned to November 17.

Faafua’s lawyer said her client denied the gang links.

The court heard detectives tracked him down by tattoos and a distinctive haircut.

“Ultimately at its highest, he’s not alleged to have threatened violence or carried any weapons,” his lawyer said in arguing bail.

Magistrate Joan White granted the 19-year-old bail with strict conditions taking into account his youth and lack of criminal history.

He must abide by a curfew, live with his mum, not contact witnesses, and not enter the Gold Coast. The matter will return to court on December 16.

Two suspects remain outstanding.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm and the surrounding area smelled of smoke, a QFES spokeswoman said.

They found the unit blaze in the kitchen had been “extinguished by the occupants” and there was “burnt stuff on a cooktop”.

Firefighters made sure the area was safe, conducted atmospheric testing and left the scene in the hands of police.

On Wednesday morning, a 40-year-old Labrador man was “assisting police with their investigation” after the unit fire.

Officers were probing whether the residence was being used for the production of drugs.

“Police were called and a quantity of chemicals, cooking utensils and white powder on a table were allegedly observed,” a police spokeswoman said.
