A MAN has been charged with abduction and a string of other charges after allegedly driving at police officers, and ramming a cop car, while he had his partner’s three children in the vehicle.
Police approached the vehicle as it crossed the Tweed-Coolangatta border about 5.30pm Saturday, but the driver allegedly sped off, forcing an officer to jump out of its path.
Police tracked the vehicle to a Pimpama 7-Eleven, where the mother of the children got out.
Police attempted to block the vehicle in, but the man allegedly rammed a cop car to escape.
The man was later tracked to a Logan carpark where the children – aged between one and four – were found distraught but uninjured.
It’s understood the vehicle had accidentally crossed the border and they were trying to return to Queensland before the ordeal.
Police will allege the man had the drug ice in his system.
The woman has not been charged.
The man was charged with a string of offences.
They included three counts of abduction of a child under 16, dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving without a licence disqualified by a court order and three counts of endangering children by exposure.
The man had his charges mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
No application for bail was made and the matter will be heard again on October 12.
