Firefighters had to free a man from his vehicle after he was trapped inside it following a two-vehicle smash on the Gold Coast’s M1 highway.
A white van and blue SUV collided southbound near Exit 49 at Pimpama, with a swarm of emergency services – including police, paramedics and firefighters – responding to the scene.
The alarm was raised at 6.13pm on Thursday, a Queensland Police Media spokesman said.
“It looks like one of the drivers is pinned inside their vehicle, trapped - and firefighters are trying to help them out.
“Other than that one lane where it happened, the highway itself isn’t closed. But there is slower traffic than normal.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said that after being freed from his vehicle the man was treated by paramedics at the scene for chest and pelvis injuries.
He was then taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
