Firefighters and police have been busy responding to vehicle fires across the Gold Coast on Monday morning, including a suspicious blaze involving a car on a tow truck.
One incident occurred on Reserve Rd at Upper Coomera just before 10am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) firefighters were called to the car fire after a reported “explosion”.
The vehicle was “well alight” when firefighters arrived and they spent about half an hour trying to douse the flames, a spokesman said.
QFES reportedly left the scene in the hands of Queensland Police about 11.40am, but a police spokeswoman was not able to provide more information.
It’s understood that fire is not suspicious in nature.
Gold Coast emergency services were also called to another fire involving a small Pantech truck on Logan River Rd at Beenleigh, just outside the region, about 10.30am.
The fire was producing “thick black smoke”, the QFES spokesman said, which could be seen from some distance away.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, which resulted in the truck partially blocking the road, by about 10.55am.
Early in the morning, about 2.15am, emergency services were alerted to a car on fire on a tow truck on Barrine Dr at Worongary.
Smoke was seen rising from the car on the truck, resulting in a call for help.
Firefighters spent about 45 minutes at the scene and made sure the area was safe before they left.
Police have deemed the fire suspicious, a spokeswoman confirmed.
This was due to the discovery of an accelerant potentially used to torch the vehicle.
