Eisa Mohammed charged over alleged kidnapping

Police have accused an alleged Hells Angels associate of flying into NSW from the Gold Coast to participate in a vicious kidnapping and assault on a man accused of owing $1 million.

An alleged associate of the Hells Angels has been charged over his alleged role in a violent kidnapping and assault in Sydney earlier this year.

An alleged Hells Angels associate is accused of participating in a vicious kidnapping in which a man said to owe a debt allegedly had his knee smashed and was forced into a freezing shower for an hour.

A court has heard Eisa Mohammed allegedly acted at the orders of a Gold Coast-based Hells Angels chapter treasurer when he flew into NSW and participated in parts of a horrific days-long assault on a man.

Mohammed is not accused of belonging to the Hells Angels, but police will allege he was acquainted with some of the gang’s members.

He has now been charged with taking or detaining a person in company to gain an advantage and causing actual bodily harm, and participating in a criminal group.

Chilling details of the alleged assault on the man between February 21 and February 24 this year at properties in Lidcombe, Ashcroft and North Parramatta were aired as the cleanskin Gold Coast man applied for bail.

Police will allege Mohammed was only present for a few hours on one of the days the complainant was allegedly detained.

Prosecutor Sgt Nicholas said Mohammed and his co-accused had “no concern for life” through the complainant’s days-long ordeal.

“The first physical interaction the defendant has with the alleged victim is when he whipped him on the back with an iPhone cable,” Sgt Nicholas told Magistrate Greg Grogin at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.

“They (allegedly) flew to Sydney for the sole purpose to extort money off a person who, it doesn’t seem, owes anybody any money.”

At other times, police will allege various co-accused men threatened to chop off the man’s fingers, forced him to sit in a freezing shower with his arms over his head for an hour, punched and kicked him, and broke his knee with a hammer and then a piece of wood.

“(The complainant allegedly said) I could tell that the big boss was starting to lose patience, he said ‘I’m going to cut your fingers off if you don’t transfer money’,” Sgt Nicholas said.

Mohammed’s barrister Ben Barrack submitted a jury would have to determine whether the specific actions Mohammed was accused of could have caused actual bodily harm.

The court heard there would also be an issue as to whether he could be identified at all as being involved in the man’s alleged detention.

Mr Barrack said Mohammed, 30, had no criminal record in NSW, and needed his liberty to take care of his mother and obtain psychological support.

Mohammed offered a $30,000 surety and to surrender his passport, report daily to police, abide by a curfew and stay out of NSW.

“It was said the alleged victim owed over a million dollars, and he was taken to an address and told if he did not comply they would murder him and the Hells Angels would come after his family,” Mr Grogin said in his decision on bail.

“Several demands were made to transfer digital currency to a digital wallet, and he was subjected to intermittent assaults as he attempted to stall – there were several threats to cut off the fingers.”

Police have now arrested six people in connection to the alleged kidnapping.

Mr Grogin said the man required extensive facial surgery due to his injuries and suffered a broken knee.

“I’m concerned with his alleged association, not saying he’s a member, but association with people involved in the Hells Angels,” Mr Grogin said.

“One only needs to be awake and to watch TV, or sit in these courts to see what people involved with these gangs will involve themselves in.”

Mr Grogin said he was not satisfied, based on the seriousness of the allegations and Mohammed’s alleged willingness to travel into NSW to involve himself in the incident, that bail conditions could mitigate the risk he posed and bail was refused.

Mohammed’s matter will next be mentioned on July 21.
