Two 12-year-olds were among six youths arrested and charged after stolen vehicles crashed at Currumbin Waters in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The fiery collision took place between a white Mercedes A180 and a blue Nissan Qashqai near the intersection of Currumbin Creek Road and Leonard Parade at 2.05am.
Such was the force of the accident that the Qashqai rolled onto its roof.
Both vehicles had been reported stolen, the Qashqai from an address at Tugun between February 3 and 4 and the Mercedes Benz from Tweed Heads between February 6 and 7.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson told the Bulletin that following the accident a Dog Squad officer found six boys hiding nearby.
Two 12-year-old boys, two 14-year-old boys and two 15-year-old boys are now facing various charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, bringing stolen goods into Queensland and break and enter offences.
It is alleged by police that the boys are known to each other.
Following the crash two of the boys – a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old – were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said no members of the public were injured in the collision.
The accident comes just a day after the Bulletin reported that cars had been stolen from a Currumbin Waters property twice in nine days.
Commenting on the article, Currumbin MP Laura Gerber claimed “Currumbin Waters is under siege”.
Police said investigations are continuing into the latest incident.
