Cars burned out in arson attack at car dealership in Biggera Waters

Police are investigating after a number of vehicles were destroyed in a suspected arson attack at a Gold Coast business.

Police are investigating after a number of vehicles were burnt out in a suspected arson attack at a Gold Coast business.

The cars – four utes and an SUV – caught fire at about 12.40am on Sunday in a car park at Diamond Auto Traders, a luxury car dealer operating from a Biggera Waters industrial complex.

Among the vehicles destroyed were:

* A 2018 Mercedes dual cab ute.

* A 2012 Holden Colorado ute.

* A 2016 Toyota Hilux ute.

* A 2018 Toyota Hilux ute.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesperson said a number of crews responded to the scene after being called at 12.40am.

Fire crews arrived ten minutes later to find the five vehicles well involved.

The spokesperson said firefighters had the fire under control and contained to the five vehicles eight minutes later, with the blaze fully extinguished by 1.08am.

Of the five vehicles affected, four were entirely burnt out while the fourth – the Mercedes – was very seriously damaged.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the fire was being treated as suspicious and officers were appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage from the time to come forward.

“Police are appealing for assistance following suspicious car fires in Biggera Waters this morning, August 11,” the spokesperson said.

“Just after 12.40am emergency services were called to an open space car park on Brisbane Road following reports of vehicles on fire.

“All the fires were extinguished however four vehicles were completely destroyed.

“Police are appealing to anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV vision and any witnesses to come forward.”

Business owners at the complex where the incident took place said it was quiet area where there had never previously been any trouble.
