A car stolen in Brisbane six weeks ago has wound up dramatically burnt out in a quiet residential street 88km away at the southern end of the Gold Coast.
Locals called emergency services shortly after 4.40am on Friday after the car was seen engulfed in flames just off a small roundabout linking Canopy Dr and Pebble Creek Rd in Bonogin.
The quiet location is surrounded by bush and set some distance away from housing.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said the car, a Toyota Corolla, had been stolen some time ago at New Farm in Brisbane.
“Police are investigating after a stolen vehicle fire at Bonogin on Friday morning,” the spokesperson said.
“Around 4.40am emergency services were called to the Pebble Creek Rd intersection with Canopy Drive after reports of a vehicle fire.
“A Toyota Corolla that was stolen from New Farm in Brisbane on April 10 was completely burnt out.
“The vehicle was abandoned and unoccupied.
“Investigations remain ongoing.”
It was the second stolen vehicle to have been discovered destroyed on the Gold Coast in as many days.
