A 70-year-old man has died a day after being badly injured in a crash in Yatala on the Gold Coast.
The man, who is from the Ipswich suburb of Bundamba, passed away at the Gold Coast University Hospital on Sunday.
The man had been taken to the hospital in critical condition after his red Suzuki motorbike was hit by a blue Nissan Pathfinder at the intersection of Cuthbert Dr and Darlington Dr at about 9.30am on Saturday.
Police said that early investigations indicated the 23-year-old driver of the Pathfinder had allegedly failed to give way.
“Preliminary inquiries indicate that a motor vehicle driven by a 23-year-old male has allegedly failed to give way and has collided with a motorcycle ridden by a 70-year-old male,” Gold Coast Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said.
“That motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital, however he unfortunately passed away from his injuries.
“Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.”
The police Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Officers appealed for anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
It was the second fatal crash involving a motorbike on the Gold Coast in just four days, with a 28-year-old man losing his life in an accident on Smith St last Tuesday.
