The mother of Brisbane Broncos prop Payne Haas has been jailed after a violent incident in a Gold Coast casino.

The mother of Brisbane Broncos prop Payne Haas has been jailed for assaulting two security guards in a wild casino attack.

Magistrate Ron Kilner slammed the Gold Coast woman’s actions, describing it as a “most vulgar, vile offence”.

Uiatu Taufua, 46, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The mother of nine punched one security guard in the face and spat on another guard’s cheek during an altercation at The Star Casino on the Gold Coast in May this year, the court was told.

The attack occurred after the guards confronted one Taufua’s sons.

The guard who was punched suffered bruising and swelling.

The court was told the 46-year-old had a history of violent assaults and her parole for the last of those offences only finished in May 2021.

“You’ve had the benefit of probation, you’ve had the benefit of a sentence of imprisonment with immediate parole and quite frankly you continue to commit offences, “ Magistrate Kilner said.

Taufua’s legal representative said his client suffered hardship as a child and had left her family home to live on the streets by age 13.

He submitted the mother of nine should be given immediate parole, adding she was “embarrassed” and “remorseful” for her actions.

“Ms Taufua accepts that she did the wrong thing, she was intoxicated. It’s an explanation, it’s not an excuse,” he said.

Magistrate Kilner responded: “Well, nobody forced the alcohol down her throat.”

“Are other people expected to suffer injuries and sustain injuries as a result because she can’t control her alcohol intake?”

Taufua was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, with a parole release date of October 1 2022.

Her husband Gregor Haas was present in court for sentencing.
