Bashed Surfers Paradise security officer Shane Wyrzynski pleads for police crack down on teens

A security officer has called for police to remove kid gangs from Surfers Paradise at night after he was coward punched by a teenager.

AN experienced security officer king hit by a teenager has called for more police on-the-beat patrols to remove kid gangs from Surfers Paradise.

Shane Wyrzynski was working near the Focus building on the corner of The Esplanade and Staghorn Ave about 3am on Sunday when he spotted two young girls, aged about 14.

Mr Wyrzynski said he asked the teenagers what they were doing in Surfers Paradise “at three o’clock on Sunday morning” only to be told by the girls that they were from Kingston in Logan and had “lost their friend”.

After he told the girls they “should be home in bed”, they replied: “We don’t have parents.”

A larger boy, a friend of the girls, arrived and told Mr Wyrzynski: “What the f … are you going to do.”

“As soon as I stepped back — and he was halfway saying the last two words — he just launched and king-hit me in the side of the head,” Mr Wyrzynski said.

“He’s taken me to the ground. I’ve grabbed his shirt on the way down to try and pull him with me. I’ve landed on my elbow and torn my right bicep. On my right hand I’ve broken my middle finger in the impact.

“While I’m on the ground this kid was already back on his feet. He’s 140 kilograms — about six feet one (186cm). He’s ready to come kick me in the head. He kicked me in the upper arm, chest and shoulder area. I doubled roll out of it and he’s come and tackled me.”

Mr Wyrzynski said he stepped back but as the teenager approached he managed to grab him by his hair and put him in a headlock and brought him to the ground.

“He got up like a jack rabbit. I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t faze him one iota.”

The towering youth told him: “I’m f … ing 14 mate, how do you feel being dropped by a 14-year-old.”

Mr Wyrzynski told the Bulletin: “I was in disbelief.”

He recalls retreating down a ramp to a loading dock area where there were CCTV cameras, and the teenager leaving.

After finishing his shift, Mr Wyrzynski contacted police and obtained medical help at the Gold Coast University Hospital.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said there is no record of the incident.

As he left Surfers Paradise he spotted the teenager, without a shirt on, walking further south in Surfers Paradise on The Esplanade.

Despite giving police a description of the youth, officers could not find the teenager or locate him on CCTV footage.

A frustrated Mr Wyrzynski estimates there were up to 20 youths in View Street while two paddy wagons were “just doing laps”.

“Why aren’t these coppers going down the beachfront after midnight saying ‘right, you are 14, where you are from? Go home’. It’s pathetic. If you’re not from the Gold Coast, you are under the age of 18, you shouldn’t be in Surfers. I’ve been in Surfers for 16 years. All the troublemakers are all these young kids hanging around causing dramas.”

Mr Wyrzynski said he intended to provide a full statement to Surfers Paradise police on Tuesday afternoon.
