Armed robber hits newsagency, surfer injured at South Stradbroke and car, cyclist collide at Oxenford

Police are searching for a man who robbed a local newsagency, while a surfer, motorbike rider and a cyclist have been injured in three separate incidents. Find out more

Police are hunting for a man who threatened a staff member at a newsagency with a hammer before fleeing with cash from the till.

Police were called to Newsextra at Ashmore at 6.21am by the staffer, a 35-year-old man.

The offender ran into the store with a large hammer or mallet, demanding money from the register before getting into the passenger side of a blue vehicle that had been waiting outside.

The car was last seen headed west on Cotlew St, towards Currumburra Rd.

The staff member was not physically injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 20s has been taken to hospital with suspected neck and spinal injuries after hitting a sandbank while surfing on South Stradbroke Island.

Ambulance officers were called at 8.18am and stabilised the woman before transporting her to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Later, police and ambulance officers rushed to Oxenford after a bicycle and a car collided near Leo Graham Way, injuring the cyclist.

A man in his 30s was transported to GCUH with minor injuries.

Police were still investigating the incident, which occurred around 9.40am.

A motorcyclist was hurt when their vehicle collided with a car at the intersection of Foxwell Rd and Main St Coomera just after 11am.

The rider, a man in his 50s, was taken to GCUH in a stable condition with chest and shoulder injuries.
