A man has allegedly blown three times over the legal alcohol limit after he crashed his car and landed on tram lines.
Gold Coast police were called after reports the 26-year-old driver in a Mitsubishi Lancer crashed into a median strip, into a garden bed and onto the Gold Coast Highway light rail tracks at Broadbeach.
The incident allegedly occurred about 4.45am at the intersection of Elizabeth and Darling avenues.
Police allege the man blew 0.161, which is just over three times the legal blood alcohol limit.
The Silkwood man has been given a notice to appear for driving under the influence of liquor and driver to have proper control of a vehicle.
He was expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on August 23.
The man was not injured in the crash, according to police.
It was a busy night on the Gold Coast for police as they continue investigating a break and enter at a service station in Nerang.
Queensland Police stated four offenders used hammers and similar items to smash through the shop’s front glass doors to steal cigarettes.
After the cigarettes were taken, the offenders fled the Gilston Rd service station in a car.
