Union boss John Setka has been interviewed by police over an alleged sexual assault.

The Victorian secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Mining, Maritime and Energy Union voluntarily attended Footscray police station on Thursday, where he was questioned and agreed to hand over DNA relating to an alleged sexual assault.

When contacted by the Herald Sun, Mr Setka said he “categorically” denied the allegations and had fully co-operated with police.

“I completely deny it, it is bullshit,” he said.

“There’s no truth in it at all and it’s pretty sad that people have to stoop to this level.”

Victoria Police confirmed a man had been interviewed over an alleged sexual assault in West Footscray on March 1.

“It is alleged the 58-year-old Footscray man sexually assaulted a woman at residential address about 3am,” a spokesperson said.

“He has been released pending further inquiries.”

“The investigation remains ongoing.”

It comes after Mr Setka’s estranged wife Emma Walters was charged earlier this year with incitement to commit conspiracy to murder over allegations she tried to obtain a gun to shoot him.

Ms Walters denies the charges and is due back in court later this year.
