Three teenagers arrested after stolen car crash at Surfers Paradise
A group of teenagers, including two 12-year-olds, have been arrested after they crashed a stolen car and attempted to flee the scene at Surfers Paradise overnight.
Three teenagers have been arrested after crashing a stolen car on the Gold Coast.
A stolen white Toyota Prius was driving along Thomas Dr at Surfers Paradise about 11.20pm on Wednesday.
The car then lost control while turning left on to Ferny Ave and collided head-on with another vehicle before mounting the gutter.
The three occupants exited the car and fled the scene on foot.
Police were called to the area and took the alleged driver, a 12-year-old boy, into custody as well as two passengers, a 12-year-old girl and 13-year-old girl.
Police believe the car was stolen from Southport overnight.
No one was injured in the incident and investigations remain ongoing.
Mayor Tom Tate said “enough was enough” and parents needed to take greater responsibility.
He urged the state government to take action.
“It’s sad that young criminals, and that’s what they are, (are doing this),” he said.
“Obviously they have not been brought up right and I think we need to look at holding parents accountable now.
“When kids are 12 years old, it is a reflection on parents not knowing where their kids are.
“I encourage the state government and the Premier (to do something).
“He’s already got tough on crime and they need to analyse how tough they can go on younger criminals. He has to take that on board.”
