‘Typical Aussie humour’: Hilarious cyclone trend emerges
A mind-blowing number of Aussies are banding together in a tongue-in-cheek effort to “blow” Cyclone Alfred and “push it back”.

A hilarious new “survival plan” to “blow at” Cyclone Alfred to “push it back” has taken off on Facebook, with 110,000 people signing up for the event.

In true Aussie style, the joke event has exploded on social media, with users posting their best efforts to “fight back” against the incoming cyclone using leaf blowers, fans, hairdryers and even musical instruments.
“We must collectively work together to blow at Cyclone Alfred to push it back to the ocean,” the event description states.

The creator of the event, Bribie Island resident Emily Sands, spoke to Channel 9’s morning show Today about the event’s newfound fame. Host Karl Stefanovic was left in stitches during the interview.
“I thought it’d be real funny just to make it an event page, just with me and my friends. So I just invited all 20 of them, and I went away for a bit for a couple of hours, and the next thing I know, there’s a couple thousand people in there,” Ms Sands said.
“We’ve done the maths. It’s science-backed. We keep blowing Alfred. Then he’s hopefully
just going to go away.
“If not, then we have our Plan B, and that is to suck Alfred.”

The event is scheduled for 3pm Queensland time on Sunday.
“Love how Aussies find fun in everything,” one commenter wrote.
Another wrote: “Typical Aussie humour.”
A few eventgoers were quick to commend the group for their “success” in slowing down the cyclone.
“Great job guys, we have delayed the cyclone a whole two days!” one wrote.
Even Woolworths workers joined the effort with the Logan Reserve store posting a video of staff “blowing away Alfred” with a leaf blower.
“Here for you,” the video posted by Woolworths Logan Reserve was captioned.
Not everyone was on-board with the humour however, with one user calling the event “super insensitive”.
“This is a serious event that will most likely cause death and major destruction, very far from a joke,” they wrote.
“Shame shame shame.”
