TPG has apologised after thousands of users lost internet access when a technical issue disrupted the provider’s fixed broadband services just after 5pm on Monday.
The issue affected users across the country and some reported being without internet access for more than 12 hours.
A TPG spokesperson said the “vast majority” of customer services had been restored by early Tuesday morning.
“If any customers are still experiencing connectivity issues, they should reboot their modems to restore services,” he said.
“Our technical teams are continuing to monitor network performance to ensure all services are operating as normal.”
The widespread disruption was caused by a storm-related power outage in Sydney, which handles most of the NSW traffic.
The outage affected TPG, Vodafone, iiNet, Internode and Kogan fixed internet customers.
TPG declined to comment on the number of affected users, but estimated it was “in the thousands”.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank customers for their patience,” the spokesman said.
However, outage monitoring website Downdetector showed there were still more than 100 reports of issues with TPG services just before 7am on Tuesday.
“12 hours later still not back online....” one person wrote on X.
“My internet is still down and would you please provide an ETA? I tried to call but only able to get a call back in a week!” another wrote.
“Still have no connection in North Sydney area,” another wrote just after 7.30am.
The telecommunications company addressed the disruption on X on Monday evening, but their message was met with ire from frustrated customers.
“Any chance you can actually send a communication on your social media accounts, given your website is down, informing people of what is happening? The fact you have no idea what’s going on says plenty to me. Shambolic. Will seriously consider switching (internet service providers),” one person wrote.
“It took a long time to put out this message which doesn’t even acknowledge the extent of the outage, like TPG website and support being out of service. Clearly TPG didn’t learn from last year’s Optus outage,” another wrote.
TPG Telecom is an Australian telecommunications company which is home to brands including Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, AAPT, Internode, Lebara and felix.
It is the second largest telecommunications company listed on the ASX.
