Police in Chicago have shot dead a man wanted for a triple homicide who showed up at the home of far-right streamer Nicholas Fuentes on Wednesday night armed with a pistol and a crossbow.

Fuentes, 26, a controversial white nationalist figure, was “doxxed” last month, with his address leaked online after his “your body, my choice” comments in the wake of Donald Trump’s election victory sparked widespread outrage.

“Last night an armed killer made an attempt on my life at my home, which was recently doxxed on this platform,” Fuentes wrote in a post on X on Thursday.

“The gunman carried a pistol, crossbow, and incendiary devices. I believe he intended to kill me. He is now dead. I am OK!”

Fuentes, who said he was live-streaming at the time of the incident, added that he would now “have to uproot my life and relocate”.

Police in Berwyn, a suburb in west Chicago, said they shot and killed a man in a shootout after a foot chase on Wednesday night after responding to a report at around 11.40pm of a man with a gun, CBS News reports.

The suspect was wanted for a triple homicide hours earlier in Mahomet, a small village in central Illinois about 230 kilometres south of Berwyn.

The man ran from police before forcing his way into a residence in the 1800 block of Wenonah Avenue, where he fatally shot two dogs, according to police.

He then fled into a nearby yard. Police ordered him to stop but he started shooting at officers, who returned fire and killed him.

No officers were injured, police said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was suspected of killing three family members in Mahomet on Wednesday night.

Mahomet police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Riverside Drive at about 9.40pm on Wednesday where they found three people with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Sara Mason, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. Janis Mason, 61, and Caleb Mason, 23, died in hospital.

The triple homicide is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, Mahomet Police Department and Illinois State Police.

The shooting in Berwyn is being investigated by the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force.

It comes after Fuentes was charged for allegedly pepper spraying a woman who turned up at his house earlier this month in a caught-on-camera incident.

Jewish activist Marla Rose, who shared mobile phone footage of the encounter, wrote in a Facebook post that after Fuentes’ address was leaked online, she decided to visit the “neo-Nazi” at his house only for him to allegedly attack her.

“I rang the doorbell, he immediately swung the door open like he was at damn Waco, sprayed me with a burning liquid (Pepper spray? Mace?) and pushed me down the stairs onto his sidewalk,” she wrote.

“I rolled into a protective position because I was anticipating kicks or stomps, he grabbed my phone, ran back inside, bolted the door and shut the blinds.”

Writing on X after the latest incident, Fuentes said doxxing was “not a game”.

“This nihilistic lynch mob behaviour must end before anyone else is killed,” he said.

“While I can handle whatever comes to my front door, it is irresponsible to expect my neighbours with young families to share that burden. In the meantime I will have to contract 24-hour security to protect myself and my property.”

Daily Wire host Matt Walsh also weighed in, saying doxxing was “not a troll or a joke but essentially an act of attempted murder”.

“People do this because they very explicitly want to get the target killed,” he wrote on X.

“It should be treated as a criminal offence and those who participate in doxxing campaigns should be held liable when this inevitably happens.”
