Westpac customers are being urged to remain ‘vigilant’ for scams after its online banking services faced widespread outages.

Millions of Westpac customers are able to access their online and mobile banking services hours after the major bank experienced issues causing headaches for users.

Westpac said on Sunday morning it apologises for the disruptions.

“We’re aware that customers are experiencing issues accessing online and mobile banking,” it said on X, formally known as Twitter.

“Our teams are working to fix the issue.”

Reports of issue with Westpac’s online banking services spiked at 9am on Sunday, according to Downdetector.

However, the bank confirmed shortly after 2pm customers were able to once again able to access their banking services.

“Our online and mobile banking services have now been restored,” the bank stated.

“We appreciate your patience today, and we apologise for any inconvenience.

“During service disruptions, we encourage you to be vigilant against potential scams as some scammers may try to impersonate the bank, offering help.”

Almost 3,000 reports were submitted to the site, with 52 per cent of the reports relating to mobile banking services and 42 per cent due to online banking services.

Frustrated bankers took to social media to share their inconvenience over the disruptions.

“This is unacceptable,” one person said on X.

“Come on Westpac, give us a time frame,” another posted online.

“I was mid transaction online, and your systems completely froze,” a third said.
