Samsung forced to pull Galaxy S10 software update after it cripples hardware, apps on flagship phone

Samsung smartphone users are struggling to even unlock their handsets or read email. Now the international tech giant has revealed the cause.

The world’s biggest smartphone maker has gone into damage control today, pulling a software update for its flagship Galaxy S10 smartphones after it rendered the phone’s security unresponsive, phone calls unreliable, and created a series of software crashes throughout the devices.

The problematic software update, released on Saturday, was meant to improve the stability of the camera, wi-fi and Bluetooth in the company’s top smartphone range, as well as tighten security.

Instead, S10 phone users have flooded social media with complaints about problems created by the software, including app crashes and even connection problems.

One user asked how to roll back the “horrible” update, another asked when the company would “acknowledge and fix this critical issue,” while one man stated he was “losing trust in the Samsung brand”.

But a spokesman for Samsung Australia said the problems were mostly contained to overseas users, and only Australian consumers who purchased Galaxy S10 smartphones from importers or in other countries would be affected by the bugs.

“Samsung Electronics Australia will undertake further testing of the software prior to releasing it in this country to ensure the best possible user experience,” he said.

The Samsung software update, also known as XXU1ASE5, renders the Galaxy S10’s screen fingerprint sensor unresponsive and unreliable, creates issues when trying to restart the phone or even answer phone calls, and users have reported frequent crashes for apps including Twitter, Gmail, and the Nova app launcher.

Even placing a phone call can take several attempts when using the company’s new software.

Samsung has yet to officially address the issue though the company has withdrawn the update for devices yet to install it.

As there is no way to uninstall the update, and neither rebooting nor resetting the phone provides relief, Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10 Plus users must now wait for the company to provide a software fix.
