Popular power bank recalled amid overheating concerns

Users of the product, which has been available in Ikea stores across the country as well as online, are warned about the prospect of serious injury.

A popular product has been recalled from Ikea amid overheating and melting concerns.

People are being urged to stop using the Varmfront power bank immediately, with concerns of serious injury.

“Affected Varmfront power banks can overheat and melt during use because of a manufacturing fault,” the Product Safety Australia alert said.

“There is a risk of serious injury from burns and/or property damage from fire if the power bank overheats during use.”

The product has been available for sale at Ikea stores nationally as well as online between March 1 and April 1, 2024.

The affected models include the 10 400 mAh with the model number E2038, the identifying number 70559612 and date stamps (YYWW) 2313, 2316, 2318 or 2319.

Consumers have been urged to stop using the power banks immediately and return them to an Ikea store for a replacement product or a full refund.
