Ecovacs Debot Ozmo T8 review: ‘Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I’m in love’

Maybe I’ve been living under a mop, but I had no idea you could buy robot vacuum cleaners that can simultaneously mop for you.
Mopping is one of those chores that I always leave off the list. I guess it feels like one of those jobs that I can skip without anyone noticing for long periods of time – though by the disgruntled expression on my partner’s face I’m not sure if that’s entirely the case.
So great news for my household – this week I’ve got my hands on a hybrid robot vacuum called the Debot Ozmo T8 made by the brand Ecovacs.

It’s an “intelligent AI floor cleaning robot” that can mop and vacuum simultaneously. This is pretty awesome because according to my research some robot cleaners can only mop and some can only vacuum.
In fact, for some mopping robots you need to go to the effort of pre-soaking or wetting the attached mopping cloth before it can start. However, Debot has a reservoir attachment and so long as it’s filled up with water and its cloth is attached you’re good to go.

Unboxing my Deebot and setting it up was fairly easy but I will say it wasn’t totally intuitive and I felt glad that I’m such a tech-head so I could navigate the set up fairly quickly.
The trickiest part is that you need to set it up with the Ecovacs app and then supervise for its first few cleans to ensure it can map out its floor plan of your house so that it’s efficient and capable of cleaning without supervision.
From there, every time it cleans it intelligently improves its mopping accuracy and efficiency.

Almost like preparing for a visit by a cleaner, you need to pre-clean by picking up everything off the floor to clear a path for the Deebot and ensure it has the room and ability to reach all the places you’d like cleaned. In saying this, the Deebot has really incredible obstacle avoidance technology and it can navigate around any obstacles that may be in its way, even the dog.
Once it was up and running I was absolutely blown away. There are multiple settings for vacuum strength and mopping and I was surprised by how quiet the robot was. Even on its high-powered setting it was nowhere near the volume of my current stick vacuum cleaner and while it was running I could easily concentrate when working from home.
I was also gobsmacked as it seemed to be more thorough than when I vacuum myself, reaching right into the corners! I especially loved that it can clean places I can’t usually reach easily like under the beds and the couch.
And the best part – if you have the mopping reservoir connected the robot will automatically mop as it vacuums and it will even avoid going over carpets so they don’t get wet. I was watching in awe as Deebot left its little cleanly snail trail on the floor, using its vibrating mopping pad to clean. You may also be wondering how well it vacuums? Well, I only have a couple of thin rugs and mostly hardwood floors but the dirt compartment speaks for itself – it was full of sand, dust, and crumbs. The vacuum bin compartment is small but it’s the perfect size for a full clean of my two bedroom house and it’s easy to empty.
The battery life is really impressive and it’s stated it can clean a home of more than 300 square metres on a single charge. Re-charging takes about six hours, which is hefty, but it automatically takes itself back to its charging station when it’s low on battery.
Overall, one could argue that in some cases it would be faster to just get out a mop or vacuum and swiftly clean the house yourself and, look, that is true. However, I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to watch the Deebot take mopping and vacuuming off the chore list.
More importantly, it can clean your house while you’re working, doing other odd jobs or even while you’re out and about. Can you imagine planning a dinner party – you could be out grabbing last minute items and your Deebot could be vacuuming and mopping for you!
The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 retails for $1299 and can be purchased from Amazon and other techy places. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I’m in love!
