Bureau of Meteorology forecasts chance of three cyclones forming off WA, NT and Queensland

The northern parts of Australia are bracing for the possibility three tropical lows could turn cyclones by the weekend.

Meteorologists will be keeping an keen eye on the northern half of Australia as three tropical lows threaten to turn cyclones by the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned three tropical lows have formed causing some concern.

“Three tropical lows are currently hovering around Australia’s north and west, near Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia,” the Bureau stated.

“There are still a range of possible scenarios when it comes to their path and intensity.”

Western Australia

Tropical Low 08U is expected to form a tropical cyclone off the Pilbara coast this weekend.

“Tropical low 08U is expected to continue moving east-southeast, then slow down and take a turn to the south on Friday,” the Bureau stated.

“It is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone on Friday and reach category 2 strength on Saturday.

08U is expected to turn towards the southwest on the weekend, while remaining offshore of the Pilbara coast.

Those on the Pilbara coast are being warned the region could possibly impacted if the low moves further south late weekend.

Northern Territory

There is a moderate risk of a tropical cyclone forming for The Gulf of Carpentaria, as Tropical Low 09U remains off the north Australian coast.

“A developing tropical low may strengthen in the Timor Sea west of the Top End today or Thursday,” the Bureau stated.

“The system 09U is likely to move east southeast and cross the western Top End coast as a tropical low today or Thursday.

From Saturday, the low may be found over Gulf of Carpentaria waters, where there is an increased moderate risk it will develop into a tropical cyclone.

Queensland

A low risk remains in place that a tropical cyclone could develop in the Coral Sea

Tropical Low 10U may develop along the monsoon trough east of Cape York Peninsula.

The Bureau forecasts the there is a low risk of 10U becoming a small tropical cyclone from Thursday to Saturday morning.

“The system is likely to remain well offshore from the east Queensland coast as it moves to the southeast through the central Coral Sea,” the Bureau stated.

“By Sunday the system will have likely weakened.”
