West Indian cricketer accused of alleged sexual offences against 11 women, including a teenager

A current West Indies cricketer has been accused of a series of sexual offences, including rape.

Recent reports in the Kaiateur News – a South American newspaper – claim that a West Indian international cricketer is alleged to have committed offence against 11 women including a teenager, with claims that complainants have been stonewalled by local authorities since the alleged perpetrator returned from an Australian tour.

Speaking on Caribbean station SportsMax TV, lawyer Nigel Hughes of the Law firm Hughes, Fields and Stoby confirmed he was acting on behalf of one of the alleged victims.

“The allegations that were levelled by the victim were levelled two years ago,” Hughes said.

“An investigation was conducted and we understand that there were recommendations by the office of public prosecutions to institute charges.

“I think the evidence is pretty strong in relation to what is happening here.”

The story has escalated during the ongoing Test between the Windies and Australia at Kensington Oval.

Cricket West Indies told this masthead on Saturday (AEST) that: “Cricket West Indies (CWI) has not received any communication or official information and is therefore unable to comment at this time.”

This masthead has also sought comment from the agent of the player believed to be at the centre of the allegations, as well as the prosecuting authorities.
