GOLD Coast Titans have signed defending champion Langer Cup coach Brad Davis from Palm Beach Currumbin State High School to join their senior NRL coaching panel.
Davis, a former Titans halfback and 154-game veteran of the Tweed Seagulls club in the Queensland Cup, will serve as the club’s transition coach in 2021.
Davis said he would focus on players outside the Titans’ matchday 17 as they prepared for life in the Intrust Super Cup competition.
“It was a big shock to me,” he said.
“I didn’t expect it at all but it’s right at home on the Gold Coast and an opportunity to experience NRL footy so I decided to have a crack at it.
“It’s a big break and I’m really grateful and privileged to get an opportunity like this.”
Davis will concentrate on helping players with goals of cracking the matchday 17 to achieve them, by reviewing their games and finding ways to improve their performance.
A schoolteacher’s background will help with the majority of Titans young guns aged 22 or younger.
Davis has ample experience having coached in the Junior Titans System for four years, seeing former students including Toby Sexton graduating through the main squad.
The position is full-time, meaning he will step away from his classes at PBC and vacate the head coaching role as his charges mount their defence of the Langer Cup.
Davis said he would review with the school and the Titans at the conclusion of this season to determine whether he would stay at the NRL level or return.
Palm Beach Currumbin’s Bs coach Tim Maccan will take over the Senior As.
He previously coached the Tweed under-18s to the 2019 national championship.
