Wallabies and Brumbies star Noah Lolesio cleared of broken neck after scary scenes

Wallabies and Brumbies star Noah Lolesio sent a scare through Australian rugby when he was stretchered off the field with fears of a spinal injury.

Wallabies’ playmaker Noah Lolesio has been cleared of serious spinal injury after a frightening incident in Super Rugby over the weekend but could still be in doubt for the upcoming British and Irish Lions series.

In distressing scenes in Perth, Lolesio was stretchered from the field with his neck in a brace after he was caught in an awkward position in a ruck during the Brumbies’ 33-14 win over the Western Force.

The match was halted as medical staff came onto the field to stabilise him, before carrying him off to a waiting ambulance.

While he was able to show signs of movement, Lolesio was also in visible pain and given a painkilling inhaler by medics as he left the field, prompting Wallabies’ legend and Stan commentator Tim Horan to express his concern.

“It’s not good,” Horan said on the live broadcast.

“He’s got the green whistle in his hand, so that’s a big blow for Australian rugby and Noah Lolesio. Is that his season over? Is that his Lions season over?”

Australia’s first-choice five-eighth last season, Lolesio was taken to Perth Hospital for further tests before the Brumbies issued a statement on Sunday morning confirming that scans had cleared the star playmaker of any serious injury.

“Noah is in good spirits and will continue to be monitored by the club’s medical team over the coming days,” the Brumbies said.

A timeline for his return to play will be determined based on ongoing assessment and symptom resolution.”
