The state’s top regional talents will take to the court at the Netball SA Country Championships for three days of fierce competition from Saturday-Monday.
This will include players in the 11 and under age group, as the youngest participants to feature in the tournament’s history make their debut.
And 101 games from the netball feast will be live streamed by The Advertiser and The Messenger in our exclusive coverage from four courts.
Hills Netball Association representative co-ordinator Tracy Goodwin, a long-time campaigner for the age group at the championships, was thrilled.
Under-11 teams will compete in a round-robin competition on Saturday.
“It’s a starting point and I think it’s fabulous,” Goodwin said.
Goodwin, who also coaches the Hills under-15 side, said the excitement of the 11 and under players was at fever pitch.
“They’re the keenest of keen,” she said.
“They’re the ones who wear the Hills blue, green and white and they can’t wait to put their dresses on for the championships.
“It’s the pinnacle of our season, to be honest – the Country Championships is what we strive for.”
Crafers Netball Club centre Lily Braddock will be among the first under-11 players to take part.
“It’s really awesome to represent the Hills, because it’s my first year and I’ll get to compete against some strong teams,” Lily, 11, said.
“Under-11s haven’t competed before, so I’m very lucky.
“I’m pretty nervous to play at the same stadium where the professionals play, but I’m sure it will be fun.”
The annual Country Championships is the state’s largest netball event, as more than 1000 players gather at Netball SA Stadium for the June long weekend carnival.
The Advertiser’s coverage runs from 9am daily, with matches live streamed from four courts simultaneously.
All 26 associations will feature in the broadcast, ensuring viewers across the state have the opportunity to watch their local heroes in action.
