Tom Tate reveals UFC plans for the Gold Coast

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate has revealed the Gold Coast could soon host one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate has revealed the Gold Coast could soon host one of the world’s biggest sporting events in the UFC.

Tate told Flan, Ali and Spida from Gold Coast’s 92.5 Triple M on Friday morning a trip to Vegas for the Pacific Air show had led to an exciting catch up with UFC president Dana White.

“I was in Vegas yesterday at the UFC Apex at Dana White’s Contender Series and watched four fights there,” Mayor Tate said.

“I caught up with Dana and I’m trying to get him to come to the Gold Coast and have some of his UFC Contender there.”

The idea could see the UFC come live to the Gold Coast, where Gold Coast local Shannon Ross is a chance of fighting.

Ross signed with White after a valiant loss to Brazilian Vinicius Salvador in a Contender Series fight in August this year.

The Aussie flyweight, who still works full time as a mechanic, was offered the contract while in a Vegas hospital with acute appendicitis and then a ruptured appendix.

Tate is currently in Huntington Beach near LA for the world’s biggest air show Pacific Air, which will come to the Gold Coast in August next year.
