Tennis legend Todd Woodbridge has called out vile abuse directed at him on social media.
Woodbridge posted a message he received on Instagram, wishing him death after the heart attack he suffered in October.
“Unfortunately Matt didn’t like the commentary of myself and Jim Courier but this sort of behaviour is just so wrong and needs to be called out,” Woodbridge said.
The Channel 9 commentator labelled the comments “disgusting and disgraceful”.
It read: “Just a (sic) old has been trying to stay in the lime light! Shame they (sic) heart attack didn’t end you.”
Fellow commentator Jelena Dokic applauded Woodbridge for getting on the front foot.
“Good on you for calling it out,’’ she wrote. “We are all behind you.”
Woodbridge, 51, has been given the all clear after the shock health episode.
The esteemed sportsman retired in 2005 after winning 16 grand slam doubles titles overall – 11 as half of the ‘Woodies’ with doubles partner Mark Woodforde – and said it had been a wake up call, urging others to get tested.
“If it can happen to me it shows that it can happen to anybody,’’ he said.
Woodbridge made a special appearance in the Ralph Lauren suite on Thursday, saying his dark horse for the men’s title is Italian Jannik Sinner.
