There were smiles, grimaces, joy, pain and passion aplenty in early season 1st Colts rugby matches.
There were also upsets, shocks and splendid winning streaks.
Heading into the fifth round of competition the 1st Colts comp is still anyone’s.
Just two teams - Manly and Gordon who clash for the first time in round six - are undefeated heading into the fifth round of the competition for the rising stars of the sport.
And only two - Norths and the Two Blues - have yet to score a win.
Coaches believe the competition is closer than in previous years with any one of a number of clubs capable of winning this season.
And they believe the ladder could be given a major shake-up in upcoming rounds.
Round 6 features the much-anticipated match up between Gordon and Manly at Manly Oval on May 10.
These teams have produced great form in the early season and have dominated the leaders board.
The first match of this round will be another banger with Sydney Uni playing Easts at Woolhara Oval.
These sides both suffered early-season hiccups but appear back on track for finals appearances.
Round seven kicks off on May 17 with an interesting bout between Warringah and Gordon at Pittwater Rugby Park.
Warringah have been tipped as a real dark horse this season and have been turning plenty of heads.
INSIDE COLTS RUGBY
Another match of interest will be the Randwick v Souths battle.
Souths pulled off the opposite of the season to date with their victory over east in round one but have fallen off the pace since.
However the side has plenty of talent and the capacity to surprise.
Round eight will see West Harbour host the Wildfires at Concord Oval in what could be an entertaining encounter.
The Wildfires have been the big improvers of the competition from last year
West Harbour are a rebuilding club in Colts but have plenty of talent capable of making this a real entertainer.
Other matches of interest in round eight will be battles between Easts and Warringah at Wallarah Oval and Randwick versus Manly at Coogee Oval.
Round nine features a replay of last year’s grand final between Easts and Gordon at Chatswood Oval on May 31.
Round 10 we’ll see the two lowest ranked teams in the competition Norths and the Two Blues battle it out at North Sydney Oval with plenty of pride on the line in this one.
The Wildfires will host Gordon at Newcastle in what could also be an interesting matchup while Randwick travel to Warringah – always a difficult venue to win at – and Manly head south to take on Southern Districts at Forshaw Rugby Park.
