Three swimmers stung by stonefish in Gold Coast creek

A THIRD swimmer has received a stonefish sting while at a popular Coast swimming spot this week. A 30-year-old woman was transported to hospital this afternoon.

A THIRD swimmer has received a stonefish sting while at Tallebudgera Creek this week.

A woman in her 30s was swimming at the popular swimming spot about 12.30pm, when she was stung on the hand.

Paramedics attended and she was transported to the Robina Hospital for treatment.

Yesterday an 11-year-old girl had a lucky escape, when she stood on a dead stonefish in the creek.

While on Thursday last week at 12-year-old was stung on the wrist, which lifeguards treated with hot water.

Surf Life Saving Services co-ordinator Nathan Fyfe said swimmers should be cautious when swimming around rocky areas.

He said lifesavers and lifeguards would be vigilant for the venomous stingers.
