CURRUMBIN surfer Shaye Leeuwendal is into the quarter-final of the GromSearch competition on the Sunshine Coast.
On a day which split the contenders from the pretenders at Coolum Beach, competitors dealt with tricky conditions with stronger than average northeasterly winds and a messy swell.
Sunshine Coaster Will Carter (Wurtulla) progressed through to the quarter-finals in the 16 and under boys’ division, which will also include Jay Occhilupo (Elanora), Zane Assink (Yaroomba), Archer Curtis (Palm Beach), Cameron McDougall (Little Mountain), among others.
In the 16 and under girls division, last year’s 14 and under girls division champion Nyxie Ryan (Lennox Head) progressed alongside Angela Ball (Torquay), Leeuwendal (Currumbin), Ellia Smith (Coolum Beach) and Jasmine McCorquoda (Bateu Bay).
In the 12 and under girls’ division, Jahly Stokes (Buddina) joined Stella Green (Buddina), Jordy Halford (Currumbin) and Ruby Rockstar Trew (Manly) in making it through.
The final will run today, as well as deciders for all other divisions.
