THE Noosa Boardriders Club has taken out the Kirra Teams Challenge surfing competition for the first time in 24 years.
Noosa celebrated its first title since 1998, securing it with eight heats remaining in the three-day competition held at Duranbah Beach from Friday to Sunday.
The club’s seven wins and two second-place finishes equalled the record set by Kirra and North Narrabeen.

Thirty-four teams from 33 clubs from around Australia took part in the competition, with each side boasting eight surfers, including six open competitors and two juniors.
Event organiser Rob Totten said the event was a huge success.
“It’s been a good competition, especially after the last two years we have had with Covid and the floods,” he said.
“Clubs who have been affected by the floods still managed to come up here so it has been a really good effort from everyone.”
Among the highlights of the event included Elouera Boardriders Club surfer Jared Hickel edging out two-time world champion Mick Fanning in the first heat of the event on Friday.
Hickel couldn’t wipe the smile from his face after the win, with Fanning gracious enough to take a photograph with the NSW surfer after the heat.
