PALM Beach surfer Ty Richardson has recorded a near perfect heat to win the Sunshine Coast leg of the Rip Curl GromSearch.
Richardson put together a two-wave total of 18.10 out of a possible 20 after scoring a near-perfect 9.93 on one of his rides in tough conditions at Coolum Beach yesterday.
It was too much for Coolangatta’s Marlon Harrison and Lennox Head duo Masa Leishman and Jai Glinderman to overcome as Richardson went on to be crowned the 12-and- under boys’ champion.
Richardson was one of three winners at the event with Lennox Head’s Nyxie Ryan taking the 14-and-under girls’ title while Banora Point’s California Barrett took out the 12- and-under girls’ category. Ryan produced a two-wave score of 14.40 to finish ahead of Sunshine Coast’s Holly Williams, Ellia Smith (Coolum) and Kasey Hargreaves (Stanwell Park, NSW).
Barrett’s victory has sealed her place at the Rip Curl GromSearch Series national final, to be held at North Narrabeen, NSW, January 16-18.
