That’s the mantra of new head water coach Michael King who is preparing to weave his coaching magic at a third surf life saving club come Monday.

The revered mentor and retired ironman believes he has found the perfect fit at Burleigh after accepting a redundancy package at Currumbin earlier this year when the club encountered financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“They have similar goals and pathways to what I represent and that was one of the major things that attracted me to the club,” King said.
“Being on the same page is a massive positive.
“We’re working towards having a competitive surf sports team and we’re trying to develop people through the club and have good role models for the kids coming through.
“You want to make it a place they want to come, train and succeed.
“I’d like to thank Currumbin for the opportunity over the last five years but now I’ll move on, put my head down and start working again.”
OPINION: Why now is not the time for loyalty
During his Currumbin tenure, King oversaw a multitude of club successes including several athletes qualifying for the Nutri-Grain series and a male Aussies taplin victory in 2018.
But at his new club, King wants to simply lay strong foundations with his new group of athletes and watch results follow.
“I see it as a good opportunity for us to grow and develop like we did at Currumbin,” the Coolangatta Gold champion said.
“I’m not result-driven so the most important thing for me is putting a process and structured program in place, getting good people to the club and people who want to be part of a good teams.”
UNTOLD STORY: BEHIND THE SCENES OF SHOCK CLUB SWITCH
The surf lifesaving rumour mill has also been alight in recent weeks with punters suggesting King interviewed behind previous coach and close friend Phil Clayton’s back.
But the position was vacant after the much adored Clayton vacated the role following last summer’s action.
King will be supported by former ironwoman Kristyl Smith with more coaching appointments to be announced in coming weeks.
