UPDATE
MICK Fanning has been knocked out of the Quiksilver Pro by Hawaiian Sebastian Zietz.
Zietz gained the winning score in the dying minutes, leaving Fanning needing an eight-point ride with just seconds remaining.
He was unable to find the wave and has been knocked out of the event — one of just three he will compete in this season as he takes a personal year from tour.
Gold Coaster Mikey Wright was also knocked out by world champion Adriano de Souza.

UPDATE
THE Quiksilver Pro has been placed on hold until 1pm with officials waiting on the tide to drop before continuing Round 3 competition this afternoon.
Veteran Taj Burrow was knocked out in the final heat before the event was stopped, falling just short of the score needed to beat Matt Wilkinson on his final wave.
Burrow needed a 5.91 but managed just a 5.57 as the waves flattened out while the tide came in.
A call on restarting the competition will be made at 1pm for a possible 1.15pm restart.
Tweed product Josh Kerr has been knocked out in Round 3 of the Quiksilver Pro with another rookie causing an upset at Snapper Rocks.
Brazilian Caio Ibelli beat Kerr in sloppy conditions as the tide started to fill in at the competition venue.
Kerr was left needing an 8.0 in the dying minutes if he was to advance to Round 4.
The score would have been the highest of a low-scoring heat but was within Kerr’s reach given his amazing aerial abilities.
But Kerr, who suffered a stomach virus earlier in the week and was on a drip ahead of his Round 1 heat, could not find a wave and was knocked out of the contest.
The upsets have continued this morning in Round 3, with American Connor Coffin earlier knocking Brazilian Italo Ferreira out of the contest.
Joel Parkinson has won his knockout Round 3 heat to advance.
Parkinson was forced to wait for scores to drop for Brazilian Jadson Andre, who needed a 7.51 to knock the Coolangatta surfer out.
The judges continued to adjudicate after the siren but Parkinson advances with Andre’s final wave score falling short.

ROUND 3 of the Quiksilver Pro is about to get underway at Snapper Rocks after the last two heats of Round 2 were completed this morning.
Poor light stopped competition deep into the second round yesterday but Caio Ibelli and Kolohe Andino won through their heats this morning to halt the upsets that were a feature of competition yesterday.
Ibelli beat Gold Coast rookie Jack Freestone, knocking him out of the competition.
Newcastle giant-killer Ryan Callinan, who knocked out former tour runner-up Jordy Smith yesterday, is in the water in Round 3 against defending Quiky Pro champion Felipe Toledo.
Coolangatta surfer Joel Parkinson is in the next heat against Jadson Andre, while Tweed product Josh Kerr is in Heat 4 and Mick Fanning in Heat 7.
Gold Coaster Mikey Wright takes on world champion Adriano de Souza in Heat 6.
