Gold Coast’s Mick Fanning surfs man-made river wave, the Eisbach, in Munich, Germany

MOST Aussies visiting Munich in October only have their mind set on a beer or seven to celebrate Oktoberfest. Mick Fanning came with something else in mind and it was epic.

MOST Aussies visiting Munich in October only have their mind set on a beer or seven to celebrate Oktoberfest.

But shark-punching three-time world surfing champion Mick Fanning is cut from another cloth.

The Gold Coaster was frothing for another type of foam — he went for a surf in Munich’s man-made Eisbach River, which boasts a stationary one metre wave.

Fanning said the ride was different to that of an ocean wave — more like snow-

boarding.

“It’s good fun,” he said.
