AFTER a rollercoaster 2015 for Mick Fanning that included a shark attack, a marital separation and the death of his brother it’s no wonder the surfing legend decided to take some time out.
Filming for Rip Curl’s The Search series, Fanning and fellow surfer Mason Ho, headed north to an undisclosed location off the coast of North America in search of cold waves and clarity.
The pair found themselves in freezing conditions surfing glacier waves, floating on chunks of ice surrounded by sea lions and towering mountains.
Fanning wrote on his Instagram page that the search was “my trip of a lifetime”, and in an interview with Rip Curl admitted the trip was the perfect escape.
“To be in nature and not have a fixed schedule, cell reception or internet. It was just what I needed — to get off the grid and disappear.”
