MITCH Crews will fly the flag for the Gold Coast at the 2019 Carve Pro World Surf League Qualifying Series 1000 rated event at Maroubra.
Starting today, the elite four-day event will form the first of three stops on the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series and will take place in Maroubra Beach.
The event will also start the new calendar year for the WSL Australia/Oceania QS series.
Entered into the men’s division is a range of former WSL Championship Tour surfers including Keanu Asing (Hawaii), Connor O’Leary (Cronulla), Stuart Kennedy (Lennox Head) and Crews (Tugan).
“I’m stoked to get to Australia and kick off my year in my sponsor’s event,” Asing said.
“I hope I can get the ball rolling early in 2019, especially after some less than ideal results last year. I hope I can use this event to build my heat confidence for the entire year.”
The Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series was developed for Australian and international surfers to gain ranking points and prizemoney on the WSL Qualifying Series.
The series also creates a NSW coastal road trip for all to explore the variety of waves, visit local communities and enjoy NSW surfing culture.
