SO many spectators turned out for the 2016 Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin Classic at the weekend organisers were having flashbacks to the Stubbies events in the 1970s.
Surfing commentator Terry ‘Tappa’ Teece said an estimated 4000 people visited the annual vintage surfboard competition over two days.

Surfers battled it out on boards crafted no later than 1985 while bands played on the shore.
“We do it old school with everything, there’s no prize money,” he said.

Byron Bay’s Creed McTaggart won the competition, but admitted he didn’t know how.
As a free surfer, the 21-year-old spends most his time travelling the world surfing for films.
He said the Single Fin Classic, run by his major sponsor Billabong, is the only event he has competed in since he was a junior.
“This is the only one I ever really do. It’s a really fun competition and it’s good to catch up with mates up and then we go out in Surfers Paradise.”
