BREE Masters 2019 Aussies open female beach sprint victory had been 12 years in the making.
Masters was only 13 years old when she competed at her first Aussies in 2007.
Travelling to Perth with her dad, the then Cronulla clubbie decided to compete up in the Under-15s age group.

Undeterred by nerves, she blitzed her elder competitors and became the youngest person in history to win an Australian beach sprint title.
“That’s where it all started for me,” Masters said.
“From that point on I decided I wanted more.
“I remember I was so young and we weren’t expecting that much.
“I was there to have fun and give it a go but nerves didn’t worry me too much back then because competing was still pretty new to me.
“I was pretty shocked (with the win) and it took a while to sink in but then I was like right, let’s re-set and go again next year.”
Masters returned the next year and won the double in Under-15s before moving to the Gold Coast when she was 17 to commence training at Kurrawa under Ryan Hoffman.

Then last year, after competing at 11 Aussies, Masters finally took out the Australian beach sprint title in a time of 12 seconds.
“I’ve got multiple seconds and thirds over the years but to take out my first open gold, I don’t know how to describe it,” an emotional Masters said just after crossing the finish line.
“I’m so happy.”
