Ben Currie had a win on one front but a loss on another as stewards dished out another suspension to the embattled trainer over raceday treatment.

Sky Racing news update

Ben Currie had a win on one front on Friday but a loss on another in a net result that adds another six months to the four years he has already been disqualified for.

The Internal Review of Currie’s four-year disqualification for two breaches of AR175(a) over text messages relating to the intention to use an electronic apparatus reduced the initial penalty to a 2½-year sentence.

Separately, Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards disqualified the Toowoomba trainer for two years after being found guilty of 12 race-day treatment charges, pertaining to activities at one of his stables on March 24 and April 7 last year.

It was deemed this penalty would be served in addition to the AR175(a) sentence, meaning the stretch is now out to 4½ years, pending the outcome of further appeals.

Stewards are yet to determine penalty for the five prohibited substance charges that he was found guilty of earlier in the week.
