Trainer Ben Currie guilty of five prohibited substance charges

Ben Currie is in more hot water after Queensland stewards found the trainer guilty of five prohibited substance charges.

Queensland stewards have found trainer Ben Currie guilty of five prohibited substance charges, including two horses testing positive to cocaine.

Currie was due to make submissions on penalty by 4pm Tuesday and stewards will consider those before handing down their verdict. All five horses involved have been disqualified from their respective races.

Stewards found Currie brought Dreamscope to race at Toowoomba on September 16 last year with cocaine and benzolecgonine in its system and Eight Over to race on February 2 this year at Toowoomba, with cocaine, methylecgonine and benzolecgonine in its system.

The other charges he was found guilty of on Tuesday were:

Wicked Trilogy (December 2, 2017 at Kilcoy) with meloxicam in its system;

Shakira (January 28, 2018 at Toowoomba) with testosterone in excess of the accepted concentration in its system, and;

Karaharaga (July 6 2018 at Rockhampton) with 17-methylmorphinan-3-ol in its system.

Wicked Trilogy, Shakira, Dreamscope and Eight Over were all winners of their respective races.

Currie was last month disqualified for four years after stewards found him guilty of referring to a use of a jigger in text messages. The result of his internal review into that finding is due this week.

He has also been found guilty of 12 raceday treatment charges (for which penalty is yet to be determined) and there are also a number of other charges against the trainer still outstanding.

Additionally, Racing Queensland has invoked AR55 to refuse his nominations. He has not had a starter since May 2.
