WAGGA
BEST BET
Race 8, No.4: FLYING SULTAN
Mitchell Beer thinks this three-year-old is above average and that’s why he gave him an eight-week freshen up so he can be ready for the Albury carnival. He’s placed here to keep winning.
NEXT BEST
Race 4, No.5: I AM MIGHTY
She’s been building up to 1300m and should thrive over the trip for the first time fourth-up and she’s a progressive horse with wins in front of her, hopefully starting on Thursday.
VALUE BET
Race 2, No.2: MAGNAVALE
She’s a seven-year-old but still has some bright days ahead of her. She’s back to her favourite track where she’s won four races and she’s dropping in grade for this.
QUADDIE
Race 6: 1, 3, 5, 9
Race 7: 5, 6, 8
Race 8: 4, 7, 12
Race9: 1, 2, 9, 10
JOCKEY TO WATCH
Jeff Penza might have a day out with rides like Nalabelle, Kurocaine, Mancconi, Iverson, Archie’s A Star and Wilful Spirit.
TRAINER TO WATCH
Joseph Ible has a few value hopes like I Am Mighty, Divine Moment and the favourite Cuban Granchico in the last.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WAGGA
RACE 1
Nymagee also runs on her home track on debut and she ran fourth in a trial but was under a good hold and looked like a loaded spring ready to fire at her first start from barrier one where she should tuck in behind them and produce late. All Astern and Bransom have both come out of the races gives them all a much better chance. Miss Wallflower should make a promising start to its career from a good gate for trainer Andrew Dale.
Bet: Nymagee to win
RACE 2
Can Intuition win under 62.5kg? His record at 1400m is terrible but he is ready to break that hoodoo these days. Kurocaine has been on fire for a little while now and saves his best racing for this track. Can he run a strong 1400m though? It’s a query but he’s in the form to do it. Magnavale has won four races here and was defeated by Kurocaine narrowly two runs back but meets is 3.5kg better at the weights.
Bet: Magnavale to win
RACE 3
Hemmerle shoots for three-straight and is rock-hard fit to tackle 1800m again and gets in with a winnable weight and should go close. Larmour will run the trip right out but is up in grade and there is a query about her class at this level but she should run well. Jeddalet ran on very well fresh over a mile, has a second-up win to her name and likes racing here so she’s a good chance each way.
Bet: Quinella 1, 11
RACE 4
Victory Idol gets in with just 54kg and will use that to her advantage and probably lead them here and she should in going close although her career record will turn some off. Bon Hombre will be fitter for the first-up run when he ran well and this is his chance to win his first race. I Am Mighty will enjoy getting out to 1300m now and gets an ideal run under a leading jockey. Undisturbed wants more ground but is proven fresh and could shock them.
Bet: I Am Mighty to win
RACE 5
Mancconi gets the barrier to have a dream run in transit and he’s coming off a second placing over 1200m where he would’ve won in another two strides and going up to 1300m is looking good for him. Bianco Vilano also just missed out last start and needs luck to get across and find a spot from a wide gate. It could be the reason he doesn’t win. Divine Moment missed the kick and was unsuited at 1000m on debut so look for improvement now.
Bet: Quinella 2, 6
RACE 6
Sunrise Ruby is the best horse but not a certain starter as she’s not quite race ready yet. If she runs and wins it will be on class alone. Whenitrainsitpours is a horse on the rise, having only run worse than second once in five starts but she needs to run a career best as he goes up two grades. Blitzar has a great record and if the track stays dry he’s hard to beat. Demanding Mo might be the each-way bet.
Bet: Blitzar to win
RACE 7
Lumber Dream gets back out to a mile again and it looks good for him third-up after two nice performances over shorter trips when hitting the line well. Iverson needs luck from a wide gate but comes off his best run to date. Shiny Rock will be fitter for the last run over 1600m off an eight-week let-up and he looks well placed. Al Muree should be suited at a mile now after running on well over 1300m last time.
Bet: Lumber Dream to win
RACE 8
Mitchell Beer has high hopes for Flying Sultan who he put away after winning at Albury in December. He thinks he’s a horse that can do well over the Albury carnival so look for a big run here. The stablemate The Wyvern isn’t as well fancied but does have 5.5kg less which will bring her into it. Archie’s A Star should give a good account of himself and has won second-up in the past and placed as well from two runs. Fifty Carats will find this race easier and she’s won twice here and ran second on four other occasions.
Bet: Flying Sultan to win
RACE 9
Cuban Granchico is fresh off two second placings at his first preparation when he raced forward over 1200m from barriers 14 and five. He’s drawn out over 1000m so it’s a different set up. If he gets the luck from the gate, he’s a real chance. Wilful Spirit has run four placings from eight starts and she should get the gun run in transit which can help her break through. Finite looked green in a barrier trial but also looked like he had some ability.
Cuban Granchico to win
